At Goodwood, we believe that what goes into your animal bedding is just as important as what comes out of it – healthy, comfortable animals and a cleaner, easier-to-manage environment. That’s why we’re proud to take you behind the scenes of how Goodwood’s Animal Bedding is made. From sustainably sourced timber to the clean, untreated timber woodchips delivered to your farm, every step in our process is built around quality, safety and sustainability.

1. RESPONSIBLY SOURCED WOOD

It all starts with the right raw material. Our bedding is made from 100% recycled untreated timber with a low moisture content. These are often byproducts of other wood processing activities, helping to reduce waste and extend the lifecycle of harvested timber.

We work closely with our partners to ensure that all incoming wood is:

  • Chemical-free and untreated, meaning no pressure-treated timber or contaminants
  • Locally sourced, reducing transportation emissions and supporting regional economies

2. PRECISION PROCESSING

Once the raw wood is selected, it’s time for processing — this is where it’s transformed into high-quality animal bedding. Our facilities are equipped with specialised machinery designed to produce the ideal bedding consistency: comfortable, absorbent, and healthy.

Here’s how we do it:

  • Manufacturing: The wood is processed into wood chips specifically sized for use as animal bedding. The carefully selected chip size creates an aerated bedding layer that forms a natural vacuum effect when laid. This effect helps dry out wet animal waste quickly. As the dried waste generates heat, it reduces heat loss in animals, enhancing comfort and condition. This self-heating process also improves feed efficiency and supports better growth and conversion rates.
  • Drying: Moisture control is essential. Our kiln-dried wood chips are carefully dried to an optimal moisture level, ensuring maximum absorbency without becoming brittle or dusty.
  • Custom Sizing: Our bedding is manufactured in a range of chip sizes to suit different animals and applications. We can also customise the product to meet your specific needs, ensuring the right solution for your operation.

3. RIGOROUS QUALITY CONTROL

Before Goodwood’s Animal Bedding leaves our facility, it goes through a strict quality control process to ensure it meets our high standards:

  • Testing for moisture content to guarantee absorbency
  • Visual and manual checks for foreign materials
  • Every step of the way, our staff take care to ensure you receive the best possible product.

This ensures our bedding is always clean, consistent, and safe for use around newborn calves, dairy cows, poultry, horses and more. From there, it’s off to your farm – delivered in a timely manner with as little disruption to your operations as possible.

4. MADE WITH FARMERS IN MIND

Everything we do, we do with the practical needs of farmers in mind. Goodwood’s Animal Bedding is designed to:

  • Save time during cleaning and bedding changes
  • Improve animal comfort and health
  • Support long-term soil health if composted

It’s more than just bedding – it’s peace of mind.
